Petroleum Safety Administrator (PSA) - Drilling & Servicing

Course Objectives:

The NASP/IASP Certification "Petroleum Safety Administrator" indicates a high level of proficiency and is one of the highest levels of certification offered by NASP/IASP. Petroleum Safety Administrator level is an indication of a level of proficiency expected of a safety professional who is capable of developing and managing a comprehensive facility wide or corporate safety program on a petroleum job site. The Petroleum Safety Administrator certification consists of seven modules. Each of these modules is a certification course that may stand alone or may be completed as a component of the PSA. The required amount of time to complete the course is dependent upon your knowledge of workplace safety, but we find that the average completion time is approximately 120 hours. You have up to six months to complete the course.

Learning Outcome:

The PSA will capably serve as a Corporate or in-house Safety Administrator and will be responsible for the comprehensive safety plan development, maintenance, review and effectiveness. This individual will control training, reporting, analysis, and assign responsibility for job safety and worker compliance for all employees and subcontractors on the job site.

The following are requirements of the Petroleum Safety Administrator:

  • Petroleum Safety Specialist (PSS)
  • Petroleum Safety Manager (PSM)
  • Confined Space Entry Technician
  • Fall Protection and Elevated Structures Technician
  • Materials Handling Safety Technician
  • Trenching and Excavation Technician
  • Workplace Violence Prevention Technician

Online Exams:

The student will take a comprehensive online exam for the Petroleum Safety Specialist, the Petroleum Safety Manager and each specialization course. You must score 80% to receive certification. You have three opportunities to pass each exam.

Recertification:

A refresher course and exam will be required every three (3) years. The cost of this recertification is $450.

Optional Credits:

Through the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, 12 CEUs are offered for this course.
